It is difficult to tell the story of Henri-Lemieux without mentioning Louise Lemieux Bérubé. A visionary artist, dedicated municipal councillor, and passionate advocate for the arts, she played a pivotal role in the development of cultural life in LaSalle.
Recognized both locally and internationally for her innovative work in textile art, Louise Lemieux Bérubé firmly believed that art should be accessible, vibrant, and deeply rooted in the community. This conviction guided her commitment to citizens and helped shape an ambitious vision for local cultural development.
During her tenure as a city councillor, she actively contributed to the creation of the Henri-Lemieux Cultural Centre, which opened in 1986. Her goal was clear: to provide residents with a welcoming gathering place where culture, learning, and creativity could flourish. Whether through exhibitions, educational activities, or artistic encounters, she viewed culture as a powerful catalyst for both individual and collective growth.
Alongside her municipal involvement, her artistic practice continued to push the boundaries of what was possible. A pioneer in computer-assisted Jacquard weaving, she successfully combined tradition and innovation, leaving a lasting mark on the world of textile arts.
Today, her legacy remains very much alive. Everyone who walks through the doors of Henri-Lemieux benefits, in their own way, from the vision she helped build: a place that is open, inspiring, and deeply connected to its community. Her journey reminds us that art and civic engagement can have a lasting and transformative impact on a community.

A quiet but essential part of life at Henri-Lemieux
For several years, Pierre Tremblay has been one of those people the team at Henri-Lemieux can always count on.
Present at many events and activities, he offers his support with consistency and generosity, whether helping set up equipment, welcoming participants, or ensuring busy days run smoothly. Much of his contribution happens behind the scenes, yet it plays a direct role in the success of the activities offered to the community.
Pierre truly represents the spirit of volunteer involvement: reliable, humble, and community-minded. Without seeking the spotlight, he plays an important role in many key moments in the life of the centre.
Over time, his presence has become a familiar one for both staff and participants, reminding everyone how meaningful volunteer engagement can be in a place like Henri-Lemieux.
Lynda Johnson

Building Community Through Leadership
For more than a decade, Lynda Johnson has been one of the driving forces behind Henri-Lemieux. As Executive Director, she guided the organization with determination, creativity, and compassion, helping to establish it as a leading contributor to recreation, culture, and community life in LaSalle.
Her career has been defined by a deep commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and solidarity—values that have shaped every aspect of her work. Under her leadership, Henri-Lemieux continued to grow and evolve while remaining true to its mission: providing the community with a welcoming place where arts, recreation, and civic engagement come together.
Over the years, she successfully navigated numerous challenges, notably ensuring the continuity of services throughout the pandemic and guiding the organization through significant periods of transformation. Her collaborative leadership strengthened relationships with community partners, supported the work of her team, and helped raise Henri-Lemieux’s profile throughout the LaSalle community.
Beyond these accomplishments, however, it is the human connections she fostered that best reflect her impact. For employees, volunteers, partner organizations, and the thousands of residents who have walked through Henri-Lemieux’s doors in recent years, Lynda Johnson has been a reassuring, dedicated, and deeply caring presence.
Today, as she begins a new chapter, we gratefully recognize the lasting mark she leaves on our organization. Her legacy lives on in the projects she championed, the relationships she built, and the vitality of an organization she helped grow with passion and conviction.
